Level 2 Low Voltage / Fiber Optic Cable Technician

Location: Barker, NY (On-site)

Type: 4‑Month Contract (High potential for long-term / full‑time conversion)

Start Date: March 22, 2026

Pay Range: $23–$27/hr (W2)

About the Role

We are seeking Level 2 Low Voltage / Fiber Optic Cable Technicians to support a major data center build. This position involves installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber cabling in a commercial/construction environment.

This is a great opportunity to grow into a long-term role with a well-established company in the communications and infrastructure industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-termination procedures including organizing, forming, dressing, labeling, and determining proper cable slack and lengths.
  • Properly suspend and support cable using cable tray, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, or trapeze.
  • Build and equip telecom closets: install backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber hardware, and grounding.
  • Install and terminate work-area outlets (CAT3, CAT5), faceplates, and surface-mount boxes.
  • Complete copper and fiber terminations, including 110/66 blocks and patch panels.
  • Conduct cable testing (continuity, riser/horizontal testing, tone and probe, volt‑ohmmeter).
  • Identify active voice and data circuits.
  • Troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs.
  • Assist with crew supervision, training, and timeline coordination.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork (timesheets, work orders, material transfers, etc.).
  • Follow all safety standards and jobsite regulations.

Top Required Skills

  1. Experience pulling fiber‑optic cable
  2. Experience performing Fluke testing
  3. Experience terminating copper & fiber cabling

Plus: Experience with cable “dressing” and organization.

Additional Requirements

  • Strong communication and reliability.
  • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs, work on ladders, heights, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to distinguish cable colors and read small print.
  • Must be self‑motivated, professional, and able to represent the company to customers.
  • Willingness to travel locally as needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
