Stark Neurosciences Research Institute's mission is to bring together the scientific community in a dynamic, collaborative organization that advances discovery of neuroscience-related disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies, as well as disseminate and apply this knowledge to prevent, treat, and cure disease. Stark Neurosciences Research Institute's research is not only reflected across departments at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine, but at several universities and institutions.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs pre-clinical imaging research in collaboration with investigators throughout the IU school of Medicine and associates (IU, Indiana University Indianapolis (IUI), Purdue, and/or industry partners).
  • Operates, calibrates, and sets up equipment used to acquire physiologic data.
  • Performs experimental procedures with lab animals.
  • Gains vascular access and performs injections.
  • Provides summary analysis for investigators.
  • Coordinates study logistics associated with animal transportation.
  • Schedules study.
  • Trains colleagues and investigators.
  • Assists with inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies, cleaning of laboratory.

General Responsibilities

  • Leads research activities and protocol development.
  • Maintains equipment, including preventive maintenance, scheduling repairs as needed, service agreement negotiations, trouble shooting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining an active list of vendors to respond to equipment loss.
  • Supervises, mentors, and provides training for junior-level staff.
  • Prepares summary data reports, and creates and maintains databases for storage and analysis.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations.
  • May design and conduct a wide range of complex experiments.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a science related field.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in a science related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 3 years of laboratory research experience.

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
