The CalEPA Office of the Secretary is recruiting for an Environmental Program Manager I to serve as a senior policy advisor to the Deputy Secretary for Intergovernmental Relations.
The CalEPA Intergovernmental Relations Section oversees CalEPA's Border Affairs Program to promote cooperation to help ensure a cleaner, safer, healthier, and more prosperous border region. The program is a collaborative effort between CalEPA and our boards and departments to address environmental issues on multiple fronts and coordinate efforts with other California state agencies, Tribal Nations in the border region, and federal, state, and local governments in the U.S. and Mexico.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Secretary for Intergovernmental Relations (or designee), the Environmental Program Manager I (EPM I) is responsible for managing and leading highly sensitive, complex, and critical environmental policy and intergovernmental projects related to border and tribal affairs on behalf of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA).
The incumbent serves as a senior policy advisor to the Deputy Secretary for Intergovernmental Relations and provides expert-level program coordination, strategic policy development, and executive advisement. The EPM I works across CalEPA Boards, Departments, and Offices (BDOs) and with federal, state, local, tribal, and binational partners to advance the Agency’s environmental protection, public health, and environmental justice priorities.

Provide an example of a situation where your communication or negotiation skills were instrumental in resolving a conflict, securing buy-in for a policy, or advancing a critical project with intergovernmental partners.
