Job Title: Animal Lab Technician
Location: Fulton, MO
Hours/Schedule: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Type: 12 month contract
The Laboratory Animal Technician supports animal care and research activities within a regulated laboratory environment. This role performs daily husbandry, health monitoring, and facility sanitation while assisting with study-related procedures in accordance with federal regulations and accreditation standards. The ideal candidate brings hands-on animal care experience, strong observational skills, and a disciplined approach to documentation and biosecurity.
Provide daily animal husbandry, including feed, water, enrichment, and general care in accordance with study protocols and welfare regulations.
Conduct daily health and welfare assessments; identify and report signs of illness, distress, or abnormal conditions.
Maintain accurate documentation of animal care, preventive medicine, USDA-required records, and study-related activities.
Assist with scientific procedures and clinical sample collection under investigator direction.
Clean, sanitize, and maintain animal rooms, equipment, pens, feeders, and watering systems.
Support biosecurity functions including sanitation of water systems, feed decontamination, and environmental sampling.
Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, NIH Guide, agricultural research standards, and institutional SOPs.
Maintain a safe working environment under biosafety and hazardous material handling requirements.
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in livestock handling, animal husbandry, veterinary clinical assistance, or scientific animal research.
Willingness to obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within 12 months of employment (if not already certified).
Ability to work in varied environmental conditions (heat, cold, humidity, noise) with strong attention to biosecurity practices.
Ability to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
Ability to work directly with animals and tolerate exposure to feed dust and agricultural environments.
Basic computer proficiency, including email and word processing.
Reliable transportation and availability to work scheduled weekends.
